The proposal was approved, and between the University, School of Physical Sciences and Physics Department, we now have $5K which can be used for proceedings, to support travel of participants or for any other expense not related to meeting facilities. Other proposals to NSF and JSPS for substantial additional support are still pending and prospects for approval are unclear. I have tentatively reserved two possible venues here on campus for the dates December 2-4, 2002. Extension to the 5th is possible. These dates were mainly chosen for definiteness in proposals and can certainly be changed. I think the half of the program committee I've discussed this with have agreed that UCI is a reasonable place to hold the next meeting. Co-sponsorship with other institutions, for instance Fermilab and/or CSU-Northridge, would be welcome as far as I'm concerned. I'd like to ask for alternative proposals, if any, and suggest that we begin discussions on organizing the 2002 meeting so that we can begin making concrete local preparations. This message is going out to members of the 2001 Organizing and Program Committee; if there are others who might be interested, we should add them to the discussion. We may want to include a few more local people in the organization - I have in mind Mine-san and Danka Kielczewska if the meeting is hosted by UCI. Dave dcasper@uci.edu
