Subject: Minutes of SciFi meeting (02/June/'01, 9-11am, R425)

    Agenda
    1. Detector performance --Yokoyama 10min
    2. MC study -- Walter 10min
    3. E_nu study -- Boyd 15min
    4. Event Selection -- Iwashita 15min
    5. q^2 analysis --Jeon 15min
    6. 2-track analysis -- Ishida 10min
    7. Upgrade -- Sakuda 10min
    8. Performance -- B.J.Kim 10min

    1. Data sample -- Iwashita
He summarized the status of data and MC. Y2001 MC is being
processed. Y2000 data need to be reprocessed with new code.
MC (NEUT4.1 and NUANCE) for Y2000 already exist. NUANCE for
    Y2001 config should be made.

Steve points out that improving MC statistics will improve
the systematic error of E_nu analysis.
We need at least 400k events, while we have 200k events now.
=> We will ask MC group for more events.
Hayato temporarily made 20k events for NEUT*Rescatt (Wojtek
version) sample. He is worried about many low energy
tracks in the sample. Chris will check this problem.
Instead, we will use NEUT and NUANCE samples for the analysis.

    2. Detector performance -- Yokoyama
She showed the outline of her talk at K2K meeting.
She summarized the online monitor, the efficiency, Npix, noise vs time.
She will also study vertex vs time.

    2. New data -- Walter
He showed vertex (x,y,z) distributions, E_mu and theta_mu
from Y2001 data. All look normal.
(Can you use the common bin size for P(0.1 GeV/c), costheta (0.05)?
Other groups will use the same bin size. For both muons and protons.)

    3. E_nu -- Boyd
He showed the efficiency and S/N for E_nu analysis w/without LG.
Efficiency becomes 0.12->0.26, and background fraction
58%->51%. We may need mu,pi/proton separation.

Below 1 GeV, can you check the efficiency for 2-tracks w/wo LG?

He also studied the reduction of background in the present
1-track sample, by using 2-hit track info. QE/All becomes
55%->61%, while the QE efficiency is 93%.
This relies on the noise study which Ishida is working on.

    4. 2-track analysis -- Ishida
Ishida showed the outline of 2-track analysis.
He need help from Hyeonseo who is very busy now.
Bockjoo, could you take care of this?
(Ishida will send questions to Bockjoo.)
We need the numbers for our analysis and NIM paper.
    He will also study FC3/FC8.

    5. Q^2 analysis -- Jeon
She showed q^2 analysis and the fit to dsigma/dq^2 with MA.
She need new MC for Y2001 data.

    6. Upgrade -- Sakuda
Based on Boyd's study, he showed several options for the
upgrade if LG was dismounted in summer 2002
and estimated the cost/labor. 1) Simplest option is to
have 2cm thick acryl/lucite Cherenkov counters downstream of SciFi to
separate mu,pi from protons. 2) TOF counters. 3) top/side counters.
Okayama/Niigata groups are interested in the beam test.

    7. Detector performance paper -- B.J.Kim
He automates the software alignment and will update the
corresponding figures. He is updating the draft. Some of new figures will be
    made during the K2K meeting.
