Message-Id: <200410141425.i9EEPmD2014703@neutrino.kek.jp> Subject: Minutes of K2K Steering Meeting (Oct.14) Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 23:25:47 +0900 From: Takanobu Ishii <ishii@neutrino.kek.jp> ========================================================================= *General Report* ------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a problem in the magnets of the arc section. The beam channel group is investigating it. Currently (Oct.14 night) we stop the beam for the investigation. ========================================================================= *Schedule* ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===Beam=== Oct.14(Thu) No beam Oct.15(Fri)- Beam is not certain Regular schedule (if the beam is resumed) Oct.18(Mon) 9:00 Neutrino beam stops 9:00 ; Dump-mode-change by ISHII 9:00- Machine maintenance 16:30- Machine study (MR injection loss) Oct.19(Tue) 1:00- JPARC monitor test 9:00 After beam channel tuning, neutrino beam starts ~9:00 ; Dump-mode-change by HAYATO ===Detector=== Oct.18(Mon) 9:00- SCIFI,VETO cosmic-ray run -Oct.19(Tue) 9:00 ===Shift=== Nu-H shifts of Oct.14-B,C should do a hardware check once and he is free. NH-CR shifts of Oct.14-B,C are canceled. Nu-H shifts of Oct.18-A,B,C should do a hardware check once and he is free. NH-CR shifts of Oct.18-A,B,C are canceled. Shift time at KEK (SK shift is a little different) A-shift : 9:00-17:15 B-shift : 17:00-25:15 C-shift : 25:00-9:15(next day) ========================================================================= *Reports from each subcomponent* ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ===BEAM MONITOR=== (Sato) Since Oct 8(Thus), Arc magnets tripped frequently due to current leak. Slight changes of muon x direction have been observed. Magnets have been investigated yesterday and today, and will continue until tomorrow morning (at least) Beam is off during the study. Ion source was replaced on Sunday (10/10). Beam was off from 9AM to 9PM for the work. Beam intensity was low (3~4 x 10^12) last night. Bunch by bunch fluctuation is large. Empty bunches have also been observed sometimes. Accelerator people are trying to improved this. It is probable that large fluctuation in muon IC direction is due to noises on ICs. Changes of pedestal width with an about 13min period are seen in both X and Y directions. I will continue investigation. ===MRD=== (Ishii) The MRD has been working without any problem in this week. ===1KT=== (Miura) 1kt did not have any trouble in last weak. And we don't have any special plan for next week. ===SCIFI=== (Iwashita) SciFi had no big trouble in this week. ===VETO=== (Nitta, Report on Oct.13) A SciFi-veto pmt connected temporarily has been regularly glued today. This veto pmt is ch#15, located at downstream and close to a bottom. Cosmic run was started and it looks very good. ===SCIBAR=== (S.Yamamoto) On Oct. 8 we found that HV for EC was off after the hardware work. Actually the slow monitor was off during this period due to some troubles. Now we fixed them and re-arranged checking scheme for experts to avoid such a mistake. (We hope data during this period is available for the analysis of SciBar main part.) Now the SciBar is working without any problem. ===SK=== (Obayashi) This is a status report from SK. ---Trouble: Oct.11(Mon) 14:00 - 14:30 ID HV crate 13 down --> recovered by power cycle Oct.11(Mon) 20:00 - 23:00 ID HV crate 13 down again --> replaced the crate Above two periods will be treated as bad subruns. Oct.12(Tue) 11:00 - 12:00 (K2K beam is off) ID cable# 4421 trip then HV pin is removed Oct.12(Tue) 14:00 - 15:30 (K2K beam is off) Flasher tube(?) appeared but disappeared during investigation ========================================================================= SUMMARY of NORTH COUNTER HALL SHIFT (Takubo) ========================================================================= 2004 10 11 2 477 23 23 0 This week: 53.48% Live : 5658 / Dead : 4922 (acc: 2679 / DAQetc. : 2243) 2004/10/13 25:00 So far: (From Apr-3-2003) 86.34% Live : 222099 / Dead : 35148 (acc: 23742 / DAQetc. : 11406) -------------------------------------------- Oct 07 2004 B shift M.Miura 17:01 Run 9166 started 18:22 Booster mode due to the kicker magnet down 1st dump mode 19:35 Beam restarted but booster mode for beam status check 20:00 Bean on Run 9167 started 20:17 CT timig check 20:19 Run 9168 started 20:29 Run 9169 started 20:32 Awbako timing check TGS timing check 0:45 Arc of ion source was down and beam was off 0:49 Beam restared to EP1 Arc magnet power supply (B31-47) off booster mode and 1st dump mode by Ishii_san then beam on Oct 08 2004 C shift T.Ishii 1:07 Beam booster mode Reset power supply 1:47 Beam on (1st dump mode) Profile was fine 2:00 Arc mode 2:03 Run 9171 start Profile was fine 2:07 LINAC down 2:07 Run 9172 start 2:13 beam is back 3:27 Arc magnet power supply (B31-47) off 3:33 Booster mode 3:58 Reset power supply 4:00 1st dump mode beam start Profile was fine 4:06 Changed to the arc mode Profile was fine 4:08 Run 9174 start 4:50 Arc magnet power supply (B31-47) off Booster mode 4:50 Run 9175 start 5:00 Reset power supply Beam on (arc mode) profile is fine 5:25 Run 9175 start 5:47 Arc magnet power supply (B31-47) off Booster mode 5:51 Reset power supply 5:53 Run 9177 start profile is fine 6:05 Arc magnet power supply (B31-47) off Booster mode 6:16 Run 9178 starts (no beam) Oct 08 2004 A shift T.Ishida No beam, for B31-47 study and MR tuning. -14:00 MR RF computer replacement done.
